Monad, after the first year: a parallel EVM that finalises in two slots
Public mainnet opened on 24 November 2025. By October 2026 the network was producing a block every 300 milliseconds, with finality on the block after next. The design bet is unchanged: Ethereum bytecode, a different machine underneath.

- 02Consensus · 9 minMonadBFT: two rounds to finality, and a block the next leader cannot throw awayMost pipelined Byzantine protocols buy speed by letting a leader discard the block before his. MonadBFT is built to keep that block. The difference shows up as a missing form of MEV, not as a faster logo.1 slot · Speculative
- 03Execution · 8 minOptimistic parallel execution: run them together, replay the ones that collidedMonad does not ask developers to declare which storage they will touch. It runs transactions in parallel, watches for conflicts, and executes the conflicts again in order. The speed is real. So is the replay.Optimistic · Run together
- 04State · 7 minMonadDb: the database is part of the consensus budgetA parallel executor that waits on a disk built for one reader is not parallel. MonadDb is the state store shaped around many readers and the Merkle work a block actually does.Trie · Not a filing cabinet
- 05The network · 7 minRaptorCast: getting a block to two hundred validators before the slot endsAgreement is cheap if the block has already arrived. RaptorCast is Monad’s block-propagation layer, and the next proposed upgrade lets a validator vote before the whole block is local.Coded · Chunks, not one file
- 06Fees · 8 minOn Monad the gas limit is part of the priceThe posted gas price is not what a transaction costs. Cost is price times the limit the sender actually set, and Monad’s block has room for a great many of those limits. That room is why careless limits still hurt.Limit · Counts in the block
- 07Markets · 8 minWhere Monad actually trades: Kuru, Uniswap, and the rest of the bookCertiK’s October count put thirty-day DEX volume at $2.64 billion, with Kuru alone at $1.25 billion. Familiar Ethereum venues are here. The largest share, for now, is not one of them.$2.64bn · 30-day DEX volume
- 08Staking · 8 minLiquid staking on Monad: aprMON, sMON, and what the receipt actually isStaking MON and receiving a token that can sit in a pool is three different products, from three teams, with three exit queues. The yield is the smallest part of the difference.aprMON · aPriori receipt
- 09Credit · 7 minLending came with the bytecode: Morpho, Aave, EulerMonad did not have to invent a money market. The ones Ethereum already audited deployed beside the native exchanges. The risk moved with them.Morpho · Isolated markets

- 11Field notes · 8 minAdd chain 143 without signing your money awayMonad mainnet is a network setting: chain id 143, symbol MON, and an RPC the wallet can reach. The next screen, the one that approves a spender, is a different act. Most losses happen on the second screen.143 · Chain id
- 12Field notes · 8 minFour clocks on one Monad transactionA hash is not a fill. On Monad the same transaction is seen, included, speculatively final, and final, and those are four different moments, about a slot apart. The receipt is the only one that tells you what you paid.300 ms · Speculative, one slot
- 13Field notes · 9 minThe gas bill is the limit times the priceMonad publishes the formula. You pay gas limit times price per gas, not gas used. A wallet that pads a swap “just in case” is not being careful. It is bidding ten times the work.100 gwei · Minimum base fee
- 14Field notes · 8 minFive checks before a Monad swap is worth signingSpeed does not improve a bad quote. The chain will fill a terrible price in two slots and bill you for the limit. These are the checks that still matter when the block is faster than your eye.2 nodes · Or it is not a price
- 15Field notes · 8 minWMON is a contract. The ticker is not.The docs publish one wrapped MON address. Every other wrapper on the chain is someone else’s token that happens to reference an asset you know. Look up the bytes before you look at the price.WMON · One documented address
- 16Field notes · 9 minWhat a Solidity developer changes on Monad, and what they leave aloneThe bytecode can stay. The habits cannot. Twelve-second blocks, a gas limit that is only a ceiling, and an archive node that is always there are Ethereum assumptions. None of them is true here.EVM · No new compiler
- 17Field notes · 8 minYour indexer is three blocks late, and the book has movedAt 300 milliseconds, a one-second poll is a different market. Websocket heads, a host that actually serves history, and a receipt you waited for are the difference between a price and a rumour.1s · About three slots
- 18Field notes · 8 minThe tail fork is resisted. The sandwich is not.MonadBFT is built so the next leader cannot throw away the block before his. That removes one way to steal a fill. It does not remove a loose minimum, a thin pool, or a gas limit you padded into a loss.Tail · Resisted, by design
- 19Field notes · 7 minGet MON onto chain 143, and ignore every other doorThe coin is native to one chain id. An exchange withdrawal is a Monad withdrawal only if the network picker says so. A website that found you, offering a bridge, is not a plan.143 · Or it is not this MON
- 20Field notes · 8 minHow this desk holds the money, and how it comes backThe vault has an owner. The key in the browser pays gas and cannot withdraw. Profit above a small float returns only to that owner. If a screen says otherwise, the screen is wrong.0.25 · MON float on the key
Protocols on this app
“Live” means the address comes from the protocol’s own docs and passes a mainnet fork test. Everything else is honestly marked “coming soon”.
Your agent can pay invoices, but only to addresses you approve.
Turn MON into USDC (a dollar stablecoin), with a slippage guard.
A second DEX, so your agent can find a better price.
Earn staking yield while staying liquid.
Staking yield with MEV rewards on top.
Community-owned staking; gMON grows in value.
The ERC-20 version of MON that many apps need.
Lend idle funds for interest.
Morpho is deployed on Monad, but none of its Monad vaults are marked "listed" in Morpho’s official API yet. We will enable lending once there is a listed vault and a fork test.
Pay people in a stablecoin.
The vault blocks ERC-20 transfer() by design so an agent can never move tokens out. Allowlisted USDC payouts need a new vault version, which will be audited first.
A Monad-native order-book exchange, as a third place to get a price.
Advanced trading with strict limits.
Kuru (enabled above) is spot only. We have not verified and fork-tested an official perps contract on Monad mainnet yet.
Move funds between chains.
A bridge sends funds to another chain, so the vault can’t force the output back to itself. This needs a new policy design first.
Let your agent collect for you.
The marketplace contracts are not verified from official docs yet, and NFT outputs need ERC-721 receipt checks.
