A field guide to the Monad stack, from the slot to the wallet
One hundred and seventy applications, about a billion dollars of reported value locked, and a core that fits on one page. This is that page, with the arguments taken out.

The useful way to hold Monad in your head is as five layers, not as a list of logos. At the bottom is the slot: 300 milliseconds, MonadBFT, RaptorCast, finality in two slots. Above that is execution and state: optimistic parallelism, asynchronous execution, MonadDb, EVM bytecode through the Cancun opcodes. Above that is money: MON itself, receipt tokens from aPriori, Kintsu and Magma, and the stablecoins issuers have chosen to deploy. Above that is markets: Kuru, Uniswap, PancakeSwap, Curve, and the lending books at Morpho, Aave and Euler. At the top is the wallet in a person’s hand, which is the only layer most users ever see, and the one that still signs every transfer that matters.
The size of the upper layers
The Foundation’s own counts, repeated by explainers through 2026, moved from roughly 132 applications on the public app hub in March to more than 170 live by the autumn. CertiK’s 16 October snapshot put value locked near $1 billion and thirty-day exchange volume near $2.64 billion, almost half of it at Kuru. August added distribution that is not a protocol at all: the Base app listing Monad, Kraken offering MON staking, a Visa analytics product including the chain. Distribution is not liquidity. It is how liquidity finds a new user, and it is lagging or leading depending on the week you measure.
Wallets and the signature
Because the RPC is geth-shaped, the wallets that already speak Ethereum can add the network. MetaMask is the one enterprises name; Phantom, Rabby, Backpack and the rest follow the same pattern, a custom network with chain id 143 and MON as the symbol. A wallet that shows a Monad balance has not custody of anything a Monad contract does not already enforce. Adding the network is a setting. Approving a contract is a grant. The two screens look similar and are not.
The stack is only as trustworthy as the layer you actually called. Name that layer before you sign.
What is still a proposal
Cadence, at 100 millisecond blocks, is a design. MIP-10’s early vote is a design. Multiple concurrent proposers and application-specific sequencing are discussed by exchange builders and are not the block producer you are talking to. Write them down so you recognise the words. Do not route a trade through them. The live path is the one in the first paragraph: a slot, a vote, a receipt, a wallet.
This desk will add articles as the parameters move. The pieces beside this one are the core as it stood on 25 October 2026, and the field notes that follow are the moves a person can make with that core. If a number in them disagrees with the latest block, or with the network information page, believe those, and tell us.
Adding the network is not a deposit
Chain id 143, the symbol MON, and an RPC the wallet can reach are enough for MetaMask, Phantom, Rabby or Backpack to display a balance. That balance is an answer from a node. It becomes a payment only when a signature says so. The sheet that adds a network and the sheet that approves a token spend look like cousins. One edits a setting on the phone. The other lets a contract pull a token up to the amount on the sheet. People lose funds by tapping the second as if it were the first. The stack underneath can be sound and the tap can still be the whole story.
Distribution is not depth
August 2026 added doors that are not markets: Monad inside the Base app, Kraken taking MON for staking, a Visa analytics product that includes the chain. Doors matter, because liquidity does not arrive by protocol roadmap alone. They are not the inventory. CertiK’s figures through 16 October, value locked near $1 billion and thirty-day DEX volume near $2.64 billion, are the inventory question, asked by an outside firm on a date. A wallet that “supports Monad” does not contain a pool. The pool is the contract the next tap will call. Name it, or do not tap.
